Google Business Profile management for local businesses
For a local service business, the Google profile is often the first thing a customer sees, before the website and before a call. We set it up completely, then keep it active: 3 posts a week, new photos weekly, and a reply to every review.
What does a well-run Google profile have?
The right primary category, every service listed, recent posts and photos, answered questions, and a reply on every review.
Each of those is visible to a customer comparing you with the businesses next to you on the map, and each can be checked against your top 3 Maps competitors. That comparison is part of the Root Cause Review.
Profiles also change without the owner’s say. Anyone can suggest an edit, spam listings appear in your area, and profiles get suspended. We monitor for all three.
What can you check yourself this week?
Four checks, about an hour in total, using only Google Maps and your profile.
Step 1: Check your primary category against the top 3
Search “[your service] [your city]” in Google Maps. The category shows under each business name. If the top 3 use a more specific category than yours, change yours in your profile under Edit profile, then Business category.
15 minutesStep 2: Reply to every unanswered review
Open your reviews, sort by Newest, and reply to each one without a response. Thank them by name and mention the job (“the gutter repair on Elm Street”). Answer complaints with what you did or will do.
30 minutesStep 3: Check the date of your last post
Look at the Updates section on your profile. If the newest post is more than 30 days old, post a photo of a recent job with one line on what you did and the town you did it in.
10 minutesStep 4: Tap your own Call and Website buttons
On your phone, find your profile in Maps and tap Call, then Website. The call should ring someone who answers with your business name; the link should open a working page about your main service.

Questions about Google Business Profile & Maps
Do you need access to our profile?
Yes, owner or manager access. You keep ownership of the profile at all times.
Will you ask our customers for reviews?
Automated review requests after every job depend on your CRM or job system, so we scope them once we see your systems. Replying to and monitoring reviews is in every plan.
What won’t you do to the profile?
We won’t add keywords or city names to your business name, list an address you don’t work from, or post reviews that aren’t from real customers. Each breaks Google’s guidelines for business profiles and can get a profile suspended.
What if our profile gets suspended?
We work the reinstatement request with you. Keeping the profile accurate and within Google’s guidelines is how we keep it from happening.
